6 Weeks and Counting

This may have officially been the most exhausting weekend of my life. Basically, Steve and I took a 5 hour bus ride to my hometown in Pennsylvania for a marathon of wedding planning and his first time meeting most of my extended family.
It was overwhelming but exciting to see all of the bits and pieces of our upcoming church wedding come to life, in one of the most beautiful places that I'm lucky enough to call my hometown. I can't believe that in only 6 weeks, that big barn will be where our families finally come together to celebrate what we've all waited so long and sacrificed so much for, in so many ways.
Now I feel like I need a week to recover from all of the excitement & traveling (and celebrating), but it has been and will be all totally worth it!

Oh, and Steve got to color Easter eggs for the first time. And our Easter basket was so big that we'll probably both get diabetes. Thanks, mom.

Diner Daze

Saturday left us with 6 hours to wander aimlessly around Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst. After dropping Doopy off at the vet, we did a little window shopping and a LOT of eating, ending up eventually in this diner. Stepping inside the door, we stepped back in time, to wood paneled and mirrored walls surrounding a retro coffee counter. About ten cups of coffee and a pile of curly fries later, the serenade of the D train running overhead almost disappeared under the orange lightbulbs in the diner that time forgot.

Whining: Street Style

I've chosen a topic to whine about this week: Street style in NYC.
I know that there are exceptions to every rule, but as an overall impression, I'm disappointed by what is happening on these streets. Supposedly the cultural center of the universe (if you ask any New Yorker), Manhattan should be a beacon of individual style and fashion forward-ness. Norm-core is ruining the universe, and here's why: and midwestern soccer mom who is within 40 miles of Kohl's can be a DIY/style blogger now, and it's totally bumming me out. The vintage market is oversaturated. The list goes on and on. How are we still going to be individuals?

I believe that the answer lies in gravitating away from the casual. Comparing street style shots on Pinterest from NYC streets, to those in Paris, there's a definitive lack of formality in our stateside attire. Maybe heading back into this vintage, even New Look-esque dressing is the only way to maintain some dignity in the normified style world. I'm not saying that full skirts need to become the daily uniform, simply suggesting that perhaps its time to retire the jeans and denim shirt look. Just saying.

All photos were found on Pinterest; sorry for the lack of creds!

Photo Diary: End of March

March flew by like a cat attack to the face. I had 0 free time to enjoy pleasures outside of working or the general requirements of life, and when I did, I just wanted to do nothing at all. Sitting in the sun seemed so much more exciting than actually completing anything on my to-do list; this is probably why I haven't posted in weeks, and why none of these photos were taken with my camera. I feel like I've found a temporary balance in life that allows me to really get more enjoyment out of it, but this involves trying really hard not to over-involve myself in things. By stepping back, I've been able to avoid feeling overwhelmed, and even though I haven't done as much as I'd like to say I had, I feel somewhat more accomplished for it.
I keep my phone on hand always, still, so I documented a little bit of my day-to-day and free time to put together a bit of a photo journal of my last week of March. Here comes the sun, and here's to hoping to continue to find a better balance of work and pleasure in the month to come.
